Stress As A Young Adult And How To Handle It

STRESS AS A YOUNG ADULT

Hi guys, it's Manny again. Who else finds it hard to stop procrastinating? That's my first question to you guys because I suck. But still, I've been busy with school and stuff but had a topic I wanted to talk about for a while which just happens to be something I've been struggling with since I resumed school and that is STRESS.

So, it's very very easy to say I'm not the only one who's stressed out right now, there are thousands or maybe even millions of us teens who are stressed out on a daily basis by different situations like school, family, money, friends and so many other reasons. We need to know how to spot stress and handle it like a pro so we can be productive and healthy.

So first of all, what is Stress? Apart from the fact that you feel tired and achy all the time and other stuffs like that, do you actually know what stress can do to your health both mental and emotional and physical? Probably no.

Stress comes in different forms. It can be useful to the body but only in little doses to  accomplish tasks and prevent yourself from getting hurt but when it comes in large doses for a long period of time, it becomes very harmful.

"Stress is the body's reaction to harmful situations -- whether they’re real or perceived. When you feel threatened, a chemical reaction occurs in your body that allows you to act in a way to prevent injury. This reaction is known as "fight-or-flight” or the stress response. During stress response, your heart rate increases, breathing quickens, muscles tighten, and blood pressure rises. You’ve gotten ready to act. It is how you protect yourself."

But because our we aren't the same, we see and handle stress in very different ways. Some people hate stress but go through it everyday that they don't realise they're stressed until their breaking point which can sometimes be fatal.

As youths, we need to learn how to handle stress, it's the first step to becoming a healthy and efficient adult. But to handle stress  we need to know the symptoms of stress so we can identify them anytime and prevent it from taking over our lives.

Again, people handle stress differently, so symptoms of stress can vary. The symptoms can be vague and may be the same as those caused by other medical conditions. Here are some of the symptoms of stress,  but if you want to know more about symptoms of stress... Look it up on the Internet... Haha. I'm just kidding.

Easy ways to Handle Stress

  • Do something that calms you mentally and physically. It might even be a hobby like singing, dancing, creating, artistry, etc. Some of it works for me.
  •  Go meet your counsellor and have a long talk and get a lot of burdens off your chest; a problem shared is half-solved.
  • There are some easy yoga poses that immediately relieves stress, you can check them out through this link - https://www.yogajournal.com/practice/yoga-for-inner-peace-stress-relief-daily-practice-challenge
  • Take a break and breathe.
And all these doesn't work... Go see your doctor, your case is serious and your health may be in danger😁. You're welcome. Have a great day and an even better month and hope I'm not the first after reading this to get admitted in the hospital due to stress. Until next time which hopefully should be soon.
